Deck Stripping, Brightening & Wood Staining

Decks in the Sierra foothills get sun, snow, and freeze-thaw all year. We strip old failing finish, neutralize and brighten the wood back to a clean tone, then apply a stain matched to your boards and exposure.

Stripping and brightening

Old film-forming stains peel and trap moisture. We chemically strip the failed coating, then apply an oxalic-acid brightener to neutralize the stripper, open the grain, and even out gray weathering and tannin stains before any new finish goes down.

The right stain for your deck

Horizontal surfaces at elevation punish film finishes. For most foothill decks we recommend a penetrating semi-transparent or hybrid stain that wears by fading rather than peeling, so the next maintenance coat is a wash-and-recoat instead of another full strip.

Maintenance intervals

Expect a maintenance coat on the deck floor every 2–3 years and on railings every 4–5. We can set you up on a recurring schedule so the finish never gets far enough gone to need stripping again.
